School Board Chairperson, Feddie Louie, talks with Principals
On June 30, 2009, Feddie Louie, School Board Chairperson for School District 87 talked with the Principals and shared the following insights regarding expectations for education of all students in the Stikine: It is important for all staff in the Stikine to be aware of the cultures in each community. It is also important to recognize, appreciate and honor the diversity of each community. It is important to understand that when we talk about achievement in the Stikine this includes the whole child. There can be a culture shock for Stikine students when they leave the District to pursue other interests, post-secondary education or otherwise. It is important for school to provide transition programs to ensure the best opportunities for success for all out students. Exploring all students’ options and providing information
for post-secondary opportunities is important. Sharing this information with students and parents and family can make a significant difference to support students in their future goals.
